Private museums are partners in the cultural and tourism development system in the Emirate of Sharjah. Based on Law No. (7) of 2020 AD, regarding the organization of the Sharjah Museums Authority, the authority’s powers include the following:
Establishing controls and requirements for establishing private museums and licensing them in coordination with government agencies. Accordingly, a registration and accreditation system was established for all museums in the Emirate of Sharjah, including private museums owned by individuals and non-governmental entities, with the aim of ensuring that they adhere to the required standards and meet licensing conditions.
The museum in the Emirate of Sharjah plays an important role in preserving and interpreting the emirate’s diverse heritage, contributing effectively to enriching cultural tourism and highlighting the emirate’s status at the local and global levels. The Sharjah Museums Authority is responsible for registering and approving requests to establish private museums in accordance with the guidelines and standards approved locally and internationally, to ensure the constructive and effective development of museums.
